You put Willamette Week and Oregon Live etc to shame. This is the work they should be doing. Bless you for our persistence and compassionate heart for these women. This is hard stuff to deal with and it takes courage to do so, for multiple reasons.
Great piece...thanks for pulling the story together. You've gotta wonder why this town's dinosaur-media hasn't been on this story full-tilt.
This is just a sliver of the way that "homelessness" has been monetized in Portland. You might even say that Jesse Calhoun was an employee of one of its high-profit subsidiaries. The current strategy by Homeless Inc. is to give developers $-millions to cram the "poor" into one place...easier to control and exploit. Nonprofits do the money laundering; cartels run the market; pols get the cream-off. Have we left anone out?
Everyone, female or male, who publicly advocates for the legalization of "sex work" should be required to read this article and pass a reading comprehension test to prove they got it.
By the way, on a slightly related tangent, namely exposés about topics certain city officials would rather not see aired, does anyone have concrete facts about what Kevin Dahlgren is alleged to have done that caused Michael Schmidt's office to arrest him on various criminal charges?
The charging statement for Kevin was vague. Kevin's attorney James O'Rourke has asked him to not speak on the matter which makes sense. However, I can tell you my hunch from things I know from others who have worked for the City of Gresham or providers getting money from Mult. Co. is that Kevin is being charged for normal everyday procedures he and hundreds of people at the county and non profit employees report and omit due to difficulties with the homeless community when you give them supplies, food and other help. If there is more there to the story or charges, I don't know yet. The grand jury indictment will be eye opening to read. Kevin has indicated he will be giving the exclusive to PDX Real when that time comes that his attorney gives the blessing for him to talk. It may be many months before that is possible.

I suspected it was something along these lines. If that's the case, I hope some of the other people who've done the same or similar things and not been charged will testify on his behalf. I like to think that I'm highly resistant to conspiracy theories, but it's tempting to believe that the powers that be are trying to make an example of Kevin to dissuade others from digging into inconvenient stories.

They are all profiting. This is the first of other stories I am teeing up to blow this human trafficking business right out of the water.

I guarantee you Kevin is being measured differently than others that work for the county. I bite my tongue as this case plays out.
